is not uncommon for new employees to make up their minds within as early as
the first 3 weeks of employment - it may take 3 to 6 months to find another
job but the decision is usually made very early.

It
depends on how it is paid. A fixed salary or wage is not usually a powerful
motivator. However when the remuneration is perceived as below acceptable it
becomes a de-motivator. Short-medium term incentives, however, do have a strong
motivating effect, if well designed.

Recognition
is often the #1 issue which emerges out of employee climate surveys. Regardless
of how much they are paid, employees have a strong need to be recognised for
their contribution - particularly if they go the "extra mile".
